War, Media Game of Thrones, and a Shocking Assassination

Last week, I reviewed some of my predictions for 2025 that I originally shared in January.

Those forecasts were all about the stock market and crypto. And with one glaring exception, they all came true. (Unless Bitcoin hits $250K in the next two days!)

I also shared a few predictions outside of finance, mostly tied to politics and the news, earlier this year.

It’s safe to say that those were nowhere near as spot-on as my stock market predictions, but that makes sense.

And I’m happy to be wrong on some of these.

So without further ado, here are the rest of my 2025 predictions.

#1: Elon Musk Buys a Legacy Media Company…or Two!

Elon Musk is always a wild card, and that didn’t change this year.

Frankly, I’m surprised that he hasn’t been more involved in the media “Game of Thrones” that’s been happening this year.

Between DOGE, refocusing on Tesla, building out xAI, and preparing SpaceX for a future IPO, I just don’t think he had the time.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t still on the table, though.

Of interest is that the current deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery involves the spinoff of their cable network business, which includes CNN.

Remember that the media giant Comcast was going to spin off its cable assets, which include the liberal leaning news channel MSNBC, along with CNBC.

This new company (Versant Media Group) is already trading in the “when issued” market.

So two of the three biggest news channels will soon be publicly traded in relatively small companies.

Both companies, while facing headwinds, will also have significant cash flow.

With xAI looking for content and still bleeding cash, might a deal be in the works in 2026? We shall see…

#2: Donald Trump Starts a Hot War

Hola, Venezuela?

Trump is on record about wanting to avoid foreign entanglements. But that doesn’t stop him from having a significant role in global events.

It’s doubtful that Israel’s attack on Iran would have gone forward without his explicit approval, for instance.

One interesting development in the last few months has been the emergence of a modern Monroe Doctrine under the Trump administration.

If you’re unfamiliar, the Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy position put forth under James Monroe that emphasized a focus on the Western Hemisphere.

Simply put, the idea is that the U.S. should care more about what’s going on close to home rather than far away.

Recent statements and published documents by the Trump administration appear to support reviving this focus.

A “hot war” with Venezuela may be more of a small teapot on the stove as opposed to a full meal. But it looks like it might happen in the next few months.

#3: There Will Be an Assassination Attempt on Elon Musk

Musk has been controversial and high-profile for many years, but his active political involvement has taken him to a new level.

Considering the two attempts on Trump’s life in 2024, I thought this was the most likely prediction on my list.

I also said that it’s possible one of Elon Musk’s children could be targeted in a kidnapping instead.

This is one that I am extremely happy to get wrong.

Sadly, this wasn’t a year without political violence. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, for example, reminds us that it’s as possible as ever.

Again, I strongly hope that something like this does not happen to Elon Musk or his children. But I still think it’s likely.

#4: A Domestic Drone Terrorist Attack Happens in the U.S.

This is another one that didn’t happen, and I’m glad that it didn’t.

I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more drone terrorist attacks globally, but this is obviously a good sign.

My concern is that the war in Ukraine has seen Russia and Ukraine now producing millions of drones a year.

Eventually, I think these will be further weaponized globally and present the biggest terror threat of this coming century.

Again, I don’t want this to happen. But I think this one is also likely.

#5: Musk and Trump Stay Buddies

Like any marriage, this one has had its challenges!

At the start of the year, the two couldn’t be separated. Musk seemed to be practically living at the White House and Mar-a-Lago.

By the middle of the year, the relationship was on the rocks. Various unhinged posts and plenty of threats were exchanged between the two on X.

But coming to the close of the year, it appears they might have reconciled.

Maybe they aren’t the best of buddies anymore, but I do still think they will work together.

That’s it for my 2025 predictions.

Again, I still think many of these events could happen — although I sincerely hope many of them never do.

I’ll be back to you soon with more predictions for 2026. So stay tuned!
